From Raipur to Dantewada, from May 5 to 8, 2010

The meeting of the Adhoc Working Group of representatives of people’s
movements/organisations/campaigns endorsed the programme of peace march in Chhattisgarh. The recommendations of the meeting of Chhattisgarh activists engaged in making preparations of the March were considered and accepted the following

The Peace March should be designated as Shanti aur Nyaya Varta Yatra
(March for Peace and Justice Talks). ‘The meeting also welcomed the idea of the local activists that during the March a Chhattisgarh Peace Committee be constituted for follow-up action of the March, especially to stop the land and resource grab of people and adivasis and to establish the owner ship of local communities on land, forest and resources.

Here are the details of the March :

  1. About 50 eminent citizens— who believe in peace, non-violence and justice, from all over the country, along with equal number of citizens and social activists from Chhattisgarh will participate in the March. They will travel by bus and taxis.
  2. All participants of the March will reach Raipur by noon of May 5, 2010.
  3. Place to reach in Raipur- Dadabadi, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Near Sharda Chawk and Manyu Mamta Hotel.

  5. In Raipur on May 5, Public meeting and Press conference in the afternoon, At night, meeting of the participants.
  6. March starts on May 6, at 8 am to Jagdalpur, about 5 hours journey. Meeting and press conference in the afternoon, Night stay.
  7. May 7, Marchers proceed to Dantewada, meeting people, different groups (details
    of Dantewada programme to be decided at Raipur and Jagdalpur). Return to
    Jagdalpur in the evening, Night stay at Jagdalpur. — Some participants may stay for few days in Dantewada to continue contacts and talks.
  8. May 8, Marchers proceed to Dhamatari, Lunch, public meeting and contacts with people and different groups.
    Return to Raipur in the evening.
    — Those participants, who will spend night at Raipur, will hold a meeting with local activists to assess the March and to chalk out future programme.
  9. Some friends and supporters of the March have contributed some money to partially meet out the March expenses (boarding-lodging, transport etc.). Whatever contribution, if possible, by the participants, will be welcome.
