E-mail Message From a Pakistani to an Indian Friend

[June 24. 1999]

"God only help our countries. The fundo[fundamentalist] lobby at both ends must be leering their satisfaction while we sit twiddling our thumbs! Can't we start a campaign to stop this mess?

I don't know who to share these thoughts with in India, but I do want to know if there are any in India who seriously feel that there should be an end to our dispute over Kashmir and how would they like to see it resolved?
How many must die and how many displaced before we will let go 'our'
claims? Where is the concern about humanity at large?! Can't the Kashmiris have a homeland? I am all for Kashmir in toto deciding its fate.

The future world has to live as federating units. It is time for the
dinosaur thinkers to give way to newer perceptions of nationalism and to how a unit of people may want to live and be governed.

But really, tell me how do you feel? I want badly to hear from someone out there who feels like I do. Stop these hostilities! I want to get off!
What is the point of peace talks if we cannot unite to make a noise? Some bloody fool may decide to use 'the' new found power ticking away! I don't think such a thing will take place on official orders but I see it as the act of some individual moron/mad man who really does not believe that the consequences will be as serious as predicted! These types live in their own world and their reality has nothing to do with actual reality.

To get back to the point I wished to make, let us use the net for
'grass-root' activism against this madness! Who do you think would be interested at your end? Can we all connect and demand the end of war per se?

Man must see reason."
