How this whole effort started
This call for a global vigil started with a letter from Lalita Ramdas ( Feminist and Peace educator based near Bombay, India) to a few friends. A similar call had been initiated by Arjun Makhijani (Environmentalist and anti nuclear campaigner based in the US) on 20 September 2001. These calls complimented each other. Kamala Bhasin (a well known figure in the womens movement in India), helped spread the word on this and then many people joined in through a wide informal circuit of electronic networkers. The web site was put together by Harsh Kapoor (South Asia Citizens Web, France)
