The New Trade Union Initiative finds the statements of the Chief Justice of India, Mr. Justice Surya Kant, while hearing the case, on the absence of statutory wages and regulation of employment conditions for a statutory minimum wage, filed by our affiliate Penn Thozhilalar Sangam and other unions vs. the Union of India in Writ Petition (Civil) 26 of 2026, regrettable.

The National Federation of Indian Women strongly condemns the reported penal code introduced in Afghanistan under the Taliban rule and authority of Hibatullah Akhundzada, and stands in solidarity with the Afghan women in their struggle for justice.

PUCL strongly condemns the recent statements made by the Chief Minister of Assam promoting divisive rhetoric against minorities which brazenly undermines the rule of law and violates his constitutional oath of office to protect all citizens without fear or favour. It is deeply alarming that a constitutionally elected Chief Minister is inciting hostility against Muslims and Christian minorities thereby violating the constitutional goal of upholding equality and secularism.

The Budget Speech and Documents aggravate the Modi Government’s lack of transparency on VB-GRAMG. In her 90-minute speech, the Finance Minister did not utter a single word on MGNREGA or VB-GRAMG. The Budget Documents also gave no indication whatsoever of where and when VB GRAMG is to be notified, what the state-wise “normative allocations” are likely to be, or how the transition from MGNREGA is to take place. This uncertainty and confusion are putting state governments in a difficult position, as they have to make plans in the dark, including significant budget allocations. Frontline functionaries are even more confused, not to speak of rural workers. The Central Government must end this opacity and reveal its plans for VB-GRAMG without delay.
