AITUC expresses its anguish on the incident of several deaths and many people falling sick at Ludhiana with people dying of inhaling poisonous gas allegedly out of the industrial waste thrown into the water body there. The dichotomy is that the incident happened on the previous day of the May Day the international workers day.

Bharat Jodo yatra of Indian National Congress led by Rahul Gandhi and supported by many civil society groups and others started on 7th September 2022 from Kanyakumari and will culminate in Srinagar on 30th January 2023. The yatra is getting tremendous response from most sections of people. It began in the backdrop of worsening social scenario where on one side the intercommunity relations took a nosedive and on the other economic plight of average people worsened. Employment among youth dwindled, the condition of farmers, Dalits, Adivasis worsened and insecurity of women increased. The Yatra contrary to predictions got humongous response and has led to a sort of churning in the country.

The Rana Plaza textile factory in Dhaka, Bangladesh collapsed on 24 April 2013, burying some 5,000 people underneath. The day before, cracks had been discovered in the walls of the factory building and the collapse of the eight-storey building was already imminent. Textile workers raised their concerns, but were refused by the factory owner and threatened with pay cuts and dismissal if they did not show up to work.
