Noted civil liberties activist Prof Bandukwala was one of the two prominent Muslims to be targetted during the 2002 Gujarat carnage, the other being the ex-MP, Congressman Ehsan Jafri. Many feel it was a well-thought-out and pre-planned attack to send a message to the larger community: if those who got you help and saved you on previous occasions are themselves not safe, none of you are. The Professor speaks of the attack and the "2002 riots".
