    Joint Action Committee for People’s Rights (JAC) expresses its grave concern over increasing incidents of violence against religious minorities, especially Christians, in recent months and apparent collusion of some officials of the police and prisons with fanatics and extremists in perpetrating crimes against members of religious minorities. The government’s record of protecting religious minorities either in their homes as in Gojra last month or in jails as in Sialkot this week is disappointing to say the least.

    Leader of North India’s Kulaks Mahendra Singh Tikait says women who choose their own partners are ‘whores’. The ‘dishonour’ of ‘whoring’, in his eyes, does not lie, it seems, in the act of buying (or selling) sexual services. After all, men in the same region openly buy their wives (as reproductive machines) from other states, because women are in short supply due to female foeticide. The ‘dishonour’ according to him lies primarily in women choosing their own partners. This choice threatens the structures of property and land, and with it, the very edifice of feudal power.

    What’s the truth about the H-bomb? Does it warrant rethinking on India’s nuclear testing moratorium, announced in 1998 and reiterated in 2005? An H-bomb arsenal won’t give India security. It will only raise our mass-destruction capacity and escalate the South Asian arms race. We must say no to further testing.
