An accident in which six workers received burn injuries, three of them severely, occurred on 14 May 2014 at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP) which is under the last phase of commissioning in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu, South India. सन् 2014 के आम चुनाव में नरेन्द्र मोदी के सत्ता में आने के बाद से, देश के बुद्धिजीवियों व राजनैतिक समीक्षकों में इस मुद्दे पर बहस चल रही है कि आने वाले दिन कैसे होंगे। क्या वे ‘अच्छे‘ होंगे या बहुत बुरे? इस मुद्दे पर गहरी मतविभिन्नता है। मोदी की तुलना एक ओर रिचर्ड निक्सन, मार्गरेट थैचर व रोनाल्ड रीगन से की जा रही है तो दूसरी ओर हिटलर से। हिटलर से उनकी तुलना की कई विश्लेषकों ने कड़े शब्दों में निंदा की है। उनका कहना है कि न तो मोदी, हिटलर हैं और ना ही 2014 का भारत, 1930 के दशक का जर्मनी है। इन विश्लेषकों का कहना है कि प्रथम विश्वयुद्ध में हार के बाद, जर्मनी एक बहुत बुरे दौर से गुजर रहा था। सन् 1920 के दशक के अंत में आई विश्वव्यापी मंदी ने जर्मनी में हालात को बद से बदतर बना दिया था। यही वे परिस्थितियां थीं, जिनमें हिटलर और उसकी नरसंहार की राजनीति का उदय हुआ। हिटलर के उदय के पीछे एक कारक यह भी था कि जर्मनी में प्रजातन्त्र कमजोर था व केवल 30 प्रतिशत मत हासिल कर नाजी वहां सत्ता में आ गए थे।
