We welcome the outcome of the recently held two-day dialogue between parliamentarians of Pakistan and India in New Dehli. It is sincerely hoped this type of positive engagement and dialogue would continue uninterruptedly,

we must note that a development model based on extreme inequality and mass deprivation cannot build a fair society. At over $ 1200 per capita, annual national income per capita is well above that required to eliminate nutritional deprivation through domestic agriculture. There is no shortage of farmland for adequate provision of calories and protein through cereals, pulses and milk. Furthermore, billions in worker remittances enable more than sufficient foreign exchange for meeting domestic shortfalls.

WGHR strongly urges the government of India to utilize this opportunity of the UPR process at the UN Human Rights Council to repeal AFSPA as recommended by numerous countries. Such an act from the Government would be consistent with India being a democratic nation that claims to comply with its constitutional mandate and international human rights
commitments

The People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) is suing the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL) and its parent body the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) for not giving copies of the Site Evaluation Report (SER) and the Safety Analysis Report (SAR) as directed by the Central Information Commission back in April 2012.

The resignation last week of Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairperson Tilak Karunaratne, after he blamed "a mafia of high net worth investors and their crony stockbrokers" for mobilising political pressure, has further exposed the crisis in the stock market.
