This is with reference to the recent Censor Board directive to the filmmakers of the Hindi movie Rockstar, directed by Imtiaz Ali. We are surprised and shocked to learn about the Central Board of Film Certification’s decision to remove of the Tibetan National Flag and blurring the ’Free Tibet’ banners from the movie sequence.
Religious TV programming has increased rapidly over the past few years, and clerics who previously preached morning, noon and night in mosques now sermonise on the airwaves. Earlier in the year, research conducted by Sahar Gul and commissioned by the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) carried some shocking revelations vis-à-vis the content of these religious broadcasts shown in Pakistan. The research unit monitored 17 channels available locally and via cable operators over a period of four months.
We, the activists of the People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy
(PMANE), would like to bring the following demands and issues to your
kind consideration with regards to the Koodankulam Nuclear Power
Project (KKNPP):
[1] We would like to request the Government of India and the
Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) to acknowledge and honor the Cabinet
Resolution of the Government of Tamil Nadu passed on October 22, 2011
and announce formally and categorically that all the works at the
KKNPP have been halted fully and completely.
[2] We would also request a White Paper on what prompted the
Secretary of the DAE, Dr. Srikumar Banerjee, to announce that the
KKNPP was in a dangerous situation and Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam’s
contradictory claim on November 6, 2011 that the KKNPP project was
completely safe.
